There’s Pi Day (3.14 or March 14th) and then there’s Pi Approximation Day (22/7 or 22 July), which is technically tomorrow. So, within a little over 4 months there are (at least) two wonderful occasions for baking, and eating, pie. We take these opportunities very seriously around here. The math behind date-based compulsory pie eating may be a little complicated, but we find that eating the pies themselves comes very easily.
Besides the straightforward connection we make from computing and software to the math and geometry around pi, we made an even more direct connection by building our own voting application for judging the tasty entries on such occasions. We’ve used this responsive app several times now for pie bake-offs and chili cook-offs here at E-g. The app? We’re using Mongo, Node.js, Express, Jade/Pug, jQuery, and Bootstrap Material Design. We host it on Heroku, and of course our code repository is in BitBucket. (I’ve even heard that it uses BitBucket Pipelines to auto-deploy to staging when changes are pushed to the development branch, and then Heroku Pipelines to allow a button press to promote Staging to become Production. But I haven’t personally verified that part myself.)
Wait, you’re just here to look at the pie pictures, aren’t you? Well, don’t let us stop you!
