Transforming Data Management and Reporting

In an era where data is a crucial asset for any organization, our client faced a common yet significant challenge: disparate systems and inconsistent data management practices across three critical departments. This fragmentation led to inefficiencies, data inaccuracies, and hindered reporting capabilities, ultimately affecting decision-making processes. The organization recognized the need for a unified case management system that could integrate multiple data sources into a single, reliable source of truth, thereby enhancing data management and analytics capabilities.

The Process

E-gineering’s involvement began at the onset of the requirements gathering phase and extended through to the end-user testing phase, just before the project’s completion. Throughout this journey, we faced and overcame numerous challenges, including navigating security constraints, integrating multiple internal and external data sources, and connecting disparate data points for comprehensive reporting. Despite these hurdles, our commitment to open communication, creative problem-solving, and a user-centric approach enabled us to devise effective solutions.

One of the project’s significant achievements was the successful design and testing of the unified case management system, which involved close collaboration with the client’s IT and Business Intelligence teams. This endeavor not only facilitated cleaner data management but also laid the groundwork for the development of advanced reporting and data visualization strategies tailored to the business units’ needs.

Challenges and Learnings

Our team tackled many obstacles including cross-functional communication, budget constraints, and resource limitations. Flexibility, strategic planning, and stakeholder alignment proved invaluable as we navigated complexities of the project.

E-gineering’s key takeaways from this project include the criticality of maintaining open lines of communication within a large project team, understanding the overarching development strategy, and the necessity of consistent team alignment. Growing the team’s skills in Salesforce, Tableau, and business analysis in a unique industry provided the opportunity to deliver high-value solutions in data management and analytics.

E-gineering was contracted to leverage our expertise in Business Analysis and Business Intelligence (BA/BI). Our objective was to design, build, and implement a comprehensive unified case management system. As a pivotal member of the project team, E-gineering played a dual role: acting as a liaison among business units, the IT department, the project team, and the implementation partner, and spearheading the efforts in data cleaning, standardization, and the strategic design of reports and data visualizations.

Utilizing a robust technology stack including SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, Tableau, and Excel, our team partnered with a third-party vendor to develop a custom application built on the Salesforce platform. This collaboration aimed to address the complex workflows and business processes inherent within the organization, ensuring that the new system could meet the diverse needs of internal groups.
